How our building helps us minister to our community

  • AA meetings: There are meetings at Zion Tuesday through Sunday. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday are held at 6pm in the music room. Friday evening there are 3 meetings held at 7 pm in the music room, lower level green room and the quilter’s room. Saturday morning meeting is held at 9 am in the music room. Sunday’s meeting is held at 7pm in the lower level green room. Through study and sharing experience with the step program, attendees can receive support.

  • Zion is pleased to host the twice yearly DMOM sale which provides quality used clothes, strollers, toys, beds, and other equipment for moms and dads with twins and triplets and other multiple birth children.  More info at: www.facebook.com/DesMoinesMothersofMultiples

  • Westside Early Education (WEE) is a long established preschool with a sterling reputation that became homeless in the late summer of 2011.  Zion felt the Lord calling us to provide a home for this preschool and its children, teachers and families.   Our hope is that by providing Westside with a rent-free home, they may continue to educate the littles.

  • Zion hosts the Special Countywide, Primary and General Elections.

  • Zion is an emergency shelter for Polk County. In the event of a disaster, affected people will be able to stay at Zion. We sought out this relationship with our county and invited other churches to join us in this endeavor.  Our belief is that whenever disaster strikes, the church should be a place of refuge. Zion often serves as a community cooling/warming shelter when extreme weather strikes.

  • ICOACH operates out of an office within Zion and regularly uses our building for meetings and programs. ICOACH works to empower the Congolese community in Central Iowa by creating economic opportunities and offering community-led support. They serve refugee communities across Polk, Dallas, Marshall, and Black Hawk counties in five areas: Healing, Education, Economic Opportunity Upskilling, Advocacy, and Development. Zion is glad to provide space for this impactful work.
